What are they?
Mat classes are a sequence of Pilates exercises done on an exercise mat, using either just your own body, or small pieces of Pilates equipment such as foam rollers, magic circles, bands and soft over balls.
Classes generally have approximately 15 people in them with everyone following the same plan. They are designed to bring the body into balance and start with breathing techniques to focus the mind, and mobility exercises to release tight muscles.
Terms normally last 8-12 weeks and the exercises progress as the term goes on.
Who is it for?
Everyone can benefit from Pilates and many of the exercises can be adjusted for sitting or standing if required. Pilates classes are a perfect way to stay in shape, build body confidence and are also a popular addition to any fitness regime.
